College Life So Far

I am just about halfway through my first semester at Tyler School of Art. So far it has been busy, busy, busy. I am right now taking a short break from a drawing and editing and essay to update this. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t had time for some fun. I went to First Friday last week and saw some really interesting works by artists like Valera, Anthony Palumbo,Elaine Lisle, and Robert Bohne. But mostly it has been creating art like an 8 page book, and a 18×24 drawing each week. Some of my recent works have been posted on my flickr. The work is interesting to create because normally I like to useĀ  lot of color. In the foundation program you are only allowed to use black, white and grays (with the exception of 3D). It is a bit of challenge but one worth accepting.

Taking A Stab At Something New

I mean that literally. Last week I started a small whittling project. It’s been a difficult yet calming experience so far. It has been difficult only because the chunk of wood i was carving was hard wood. Next time I’ll get a softer, easier to carve, wood. So a long story short my thumbs hurt from carving, but I enjoyed it, so at one point I’ll finish this wooden bear.

I also started painting a full figure self portrait. I haven’t done a full figure portrait in quite a while but so far I’m pleased with the results.
